She is a published author and national speaker on breast cancer. She is the recipient of many national awards including the Impact Award from the National Consortium of the Breast Centers, the Excellence in Breast Cancer Education Award from the Oncology Nursing Society, the Internet Health Hero award from Intel, the Lane Adams Award from the American Cancer Society, and the Komen Foundation’s Professor of Survivorship Award, along with many others. She is known for inspiring patients, health care professionals with her words of wisdom and wit and believes it is her mission to make the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer the least physically and emotionally traumatic she can, until there is a cure. Having experienced breast cancer personally and taken care of thousands of women with the disease, she is recognized as an expert.
